Jeep J/20 pricing ?'s

Postby AMC-390DRW » Wed Sep 08, 2010 9:45 pm

I been looking around my state for J/20's seem they are either junk or they worth gold . . . I don't need a flawless show machine but i don't want a pile of junk either :notworthy:

I'm looking for a J/20 that starts, runs, drives, steers, stops and the lights work.
Body wise some rust n dents are expected they are 22+ years old after all ;)

I just don't want a smashed up rotten running parts truck, Its gotta have some truck left in her :rnr:
I was looking for a 360/MT or 401/AT, a 401/MT would be nice but not likely to find . . . looking for low geared truck 4.11's or 4.27's .

I have a 1995 GMC K2500 diesel 140k miles very nice shape, you think anybody would trade even up for a decent J/20 ?
Should plan on spending cash money ?

Anywho, i seem to have side tracked myself what would be a good price for the above mentioned J/20 ?

For a decent runner in fair shape I'd think you could locate one for around $2,500 either here or in OK. For ~$5,000 you should be able to real well. As far as the trade... I doubt anyone with a good running Jeep would take a Chevy in trade but I bet any car lot with a Jeep would take you up pretty quick.

There has been any FSJ's much less a J-truck on a dealer lot in over 10 or 15 years around my area . . .

Mike,

I saw on Craigslist maybe Aug 09 (geez, the time goes) a nice '86 model - brown, tan interior, the 727 was out, and maybe missing the tailgate?, but otherwise, really a deal - like $1100 to get it out of the driveway. It was in Tyler, I remember I posted somewhere else about it.

If you want to track it down, let me know and I'll dig up the posting. It's the right truck for someone who wants one. It felt like - I like this truck but can't afford the gas, and don't know how to deal with this transmission issue, and my parents want it gone.

Please make sure the front brake drums are sound, I've heard they are hard/impossible to come by, unless you're ready to invest in a disk conversion, and maybe hubs as well.

There was one here in Austin on I-35, I was just driving by. 1300 bucks Nice shape, minimal rust and the engine was tight. Wish I'd bought it, those badges are super cool. A man's truck for sure.

Here's your J20 on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/J20-pick ... 720wt_1167

It's a trek to Kentucky to get it, but it's what you want with the 401/AT. Closes in 17 hours.

I see the auction closed with meeting reserve... guess that leaves some negotiation open to you;) They didn't come from the factory with a 401 so I'd ask for a pic from under the engine mount to prove it since he didn't mention a engine swap in the listing...

I haven't heard back from the guy, i thought the FSJ-401's were 74'-76' Model years ? and this rig is a 77' . . .

I hate to say this but i think i might just give up on the whole FSJ pickup thing, I have a nice MSJ pickup i'm sure once the repower is done the truck will do all i need done :notworthy:
