Customizing Your Theme

I don't know how many are familiar with this Bulletin Board software so I thought I'd throw up a screen capture of how to customize your theme.

Open your User Control Panel >> Board Preferences

When you log in to this forum, you have the option to click the check box "Log me on automatically each visit".
Image
You need cookies enabled to use this, and you will only see the theme that you have chosen when you visit the forum. If you view the forum as a guest -- as many people do, then you will see the forum default theme until you log in.

To preview a working demo of each theme, click the name link below:
* DirtyBoard
* ProSilver
* ProSilverSE

Links

To open a link (on a PC) in a new tab or window:
*
Middle-click on a link, or
* Right-click on the link and select Open Link in New Tab or Open Link in New Window
* Hold the Ctrl key down when you click on a link to open it in a new tab
* Hold the Shift key down when you click on a link to open it in a new window

These are general hot-keys, not just for this forum. However, I have added a mod to the forum that should open external links in new tabs the way you are used to doing in most forums. Whether it opens in a new tab or new window depends on your browser preferences settings.

To add a link in your post:
Links are detected automatically, so just pasting or typing in:
Code: Select all
http://www.somesite.com

will show it in link form: http://www.somesite.com

* You can also wrap a link around a word or phrase:
Code: Select all
word or phrase

will show: word or phrase
Your browser status bar will show the full url when you mouse-over a linked word or phrase.

If you didn't get your confirmation email when registering, check your spam box in the email account you used when you signed up. The auto-email could have been mistakenly identified as spam and sent there.

Please enter your city or area in the "Location" field in your profile. It is helpful to other users when recommending used parts sources or other area specific things.
You can access it through your User Control Panel >> Profile.

It is also helpful to list some details about your rig in your profile signature. Such as year, model, and maybe some basic drive-train info. This helps others answer your questions better when you ask for help in the Tech sections, and saves asking what you have.
Location & Sig are not required, but it is appreciated. Thanks.

Posting Images

800 pixels is the maximum allowable width for inline full size images displayed in this forum that are linked from a hosting site like Photobucket/Imageshack/etc. Some hosting sites allow you to post thumbnail images for larger pics. Linking images in this forum is really easy. Check this thread on the ifsja.org motherboard for a handy Photobucket tutorial. Keep in mind that our pic rules and limits may be a little different than theirs.

Check the post below for an Imageshack tutorial on how to post image thumbnails from the Imageshack hosting service.

Hope this helps

ImageShack Tutorial

This is a quick tutorial on how to upload a large pic from your computer to the ImageShack.us hosting site and inserting a thumbnail link in a post. (There is already one for PhotoBucket on IFSJa so I chose ImageShack because it doesn't require you to signup.)

Here is the 1024 pixel wide photo on my computer I want to post.
Image

On the ImageShack site you can see I have already clicked 'Browse...' and selected the large pic on my computer to upload. (The small box under the frog logo.) (It also does multiple images at once.) You can also see the image resizing options in the drop-down list. I'm not going to check the 'resize image' box, I'm just showing the resizing options for you. I am not resizing this image, I'm going to upload it to display at full size -- 1024 x 874 pixels.
Image

I click the 'start upload!' button to upload the image to the hosting site.

After uploading, it takes me to the options page that shows a thumbnail of the image. I have selected the option 'Thumbnail for forums (1)' by clicking on the text field once and the whole field highlights automatically, and then I press Ctrl-C to copy it.
* If it was a smaller image of 400-600px I was uploading and I wanted to paste it in at full size, I would just use the "Direct Link to Image" link in the yellow field at the top.
Tip: It is a good idea after you copy the link to also paste the link into a Notepad file in case you want to repost that image at some other time.
Image

I press Ctrl-V to paste it into a post.

Image

Now you can click on the thumbnail to view a regular size image, and then click on the 'Full Size' icon link under the image to see it at full size.

Voila! That was semi-painless. It wasn't as hard as you thought, was it?
Now, post some pics!

Posting Videos

We also love videos here. Post 'em up.

You can put the links to YouTube videos in your posts as always:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_rxGUL3h1w

. . . and now you can also embed them in a post. One of the mods I did to the forum allows you to embed YouTube videos directly in your posts. It is still dial-up friendly as the default 1st-frame image of an embedded video takes no more time to download than your average image thumbnail.

To embed a YouTube video in your post, simply wrap the link in YouTube tags:
(Remember to put a slash in front of the end tag to 'close' it.)
Code: Select all

Works like this:

It couldn't be easier! :rnr:
