79 Wag chop top project

Postby dfwrover » Mon Aug 05, 2013 2:34 pm

Howdy yall from Dallas, TX
I am starting on a new project on my 79 wag - going chop top and pretty good size lift as well several other upgrades. I've been away from the FSJs for a while. I sold my last one (another 79) to my best friend 5 years ago and have been itching to get another one since he took it home and if it wasnt for my 60 Impala project that took a couple years to complete I probably would have started sooner...

The basics of the FSJ:
1979 Wagoneer, mostly stock with several aggie engineered fixes from PO
360V8 T18 4spd Dana 20
Stock 44's front and back
Stock carb, exhaust, and rotten interior with some floorboard work needed
Overall rust is contained to floorboards near the doors/seats, its a TX truck and the frame and most of the metal is good.

Things I am doing:
Chop the top, line the floorboards with truck bed coating
BDS 4" full spring lift
BJ's 2" body lift
Fender trimming - significant
35x12.5 r15 Goodyear MTRs
15x10 black steel wheels ---- probably 3" BS
New intake with Holley 4bl
Dick Thorly headers w y pipe and single pipe exhaust
gotta fix the gas tank the PO drilled holes and ran what almost looks like garden hose to about 3 filters (seemingly to change hose sizes)...may go with larger tank in spare tire location...looking for thoughts like a fuel cell
custom home fab bumpers with spare tire holder in lieu of tailgate
full roll cage with passenger and cargo protection
some misc repairs here and there

Would like some thoughts and or experience on the 15x10's with 3"BS and maybe some ideas of gas tank solutions in the spare tire location between the frame rails

Check out the pics of the start, this was in weekend 1
