Miscellaneous Rigs (M715 DRW, Commanche DRW, Mock-ups, etc.)

The following rigs are non-Gladiator rigs that I am separating out of the Jeep Dually list for that reason. There is a lot of interest in some of these "oddities" so I want to include them and there are some great SRW Jeep rigs that don't fit the DRW classification but are also factory rigs.

M715 Dually Dump

Unknown year (1967-69)
VIN # pending owner response

The M715 dually was different then the Gladiator duallies in that it did not have an adaptor on the front drums and used standard offset M715 rims. The M715 could be converted to duals without changes to the axle (other then possibly the length of the rear lug bolts and type of rim used). M715 wheels have a backspacing of 5.5" and width is 6.5" -vs- the 7.25" back spacing and 5.5" width of the Gladiator dually rim. According to one M715 owner: "Some of the m715 wheels are made to be run in the dual setup. The offset is the same as stock wheels. Just reverse mount outside wheel. Three of the lug nut holes are beveled opposite of the other three holes, this locks em together."

T18
360 2bbl
8000GVW

The original owner ordered it from Jeep that way and it was used locally here for many years. It doesn't look like it'll accept duals. The PO said his uncle bought it in '75 and special ordered the axles under it.

I think this is a 1967. The fenders say J2000 but the VIN and wheelbase is J3000. VIN# 3406X 200650. 3 on the tree. 232 OHV 6 cylinder. My buddy called me up and said he had a old jeep with a plow at his cabin up north. Come and get it for free. I wanted a plow for my CJ5 so I loaded the trailer and went. Pulled in and saw this. I took the plow off but know I am thinking I might restore this and put it back on. Looks like the factory Meyer's plow for it. The lettering on the back is stenciled on and is the same as the stenciled lettering used on the thriftside tailgates. Mine also has the remnants of the "4 Wheel Drive" stencil on the rear, and I think it also had the "Gladiator" decal on the rear pan also.

From Ebay 10-4-06

3406Y172xxxx

"1969 Jeep Truck Gladiator J-3000
6 cyl, 232ci, inline 6, runs quiet, no lifter noise, good oil pressure
4 speed transmission with bulldog or granny low, shifts well, doesn't pop out of gear.
7000 lbs GVW
Four wheel drive, works well, both high and low transfere
Lock out hubs
New battery this spring, it will start after setting quite a while in the barn.
Good Indiana title
Spare tire
It's a bit cold natured and likes the choke out for a while but I really believe the carberator could use a rebuild.
The original rear fenders are with the truck but need some work and could be used for patterns.
Optional Jeep flatbed with original cargo racks that were never use in the cemetery. The cargo racks never saw daylight untill the jeep was put out to pasture.
Dumpbed has an electric/ hydrolic pump that works twin cylinders. No wimpy one cylinder hoist lift here. I have moved creek rock, firewood and jeep parts around the farm and I always get tired before the truck does. The truck may moan, groan, sweak and rattle but gets the job done. Those go-no-where tires have never gotten me stuck even crawling up a slippery creekbank with a load of rock. Go figure!
This truck retired from regular work after 35 years in a Lima, Ohio cemetery as the excess dirt hauler and snow plow truck. It is not a cream puff and shows signs of it's everyday use. The dash is cracked, the front bench seat is worn out, the door panels have seen their days, the paint is faded and the brakes are soft just to mention a few things 35 years of work will do to a truck.
I put a new master cylinder on it when I first got it and now I belive it needs new wheel cylinders.
The snowplow hardware on the front has been removed but you can have it if you want, the pump housing is broken. The slow plow is here on the farm with power angle for $300.00 to the buyer of the truck only.
The good news is since I have owned it the retirement has been very healthy for this old beast of burden.
I scearched for a truck just like this for many years and now I am forced to sell off my jeep collection due to health reasons. The shed will fell empty without this old beast sitting there whenever I pass.
The next owner could use it as it is or hopefully restore it, either way she's a dandy. These were low production truck plus this was a factory cab and chassis as noted by the serial number.
Please plan on trailering this truck home the low gearing makes it a rather slow highway piece, if you know jeep you'll understand why."

3406Y100165
165" wheelbase
Ratio 4.10:1

Owner comments:
"The original owner supposedly won it for a 5$ raffle ticket...in house....my guess is they decided they couldn't build it for profit and couldn't sell it, the ID tag says the warranty is void over 7000#GVW....this sucker is heavy...... the seats are sorta low profile, and they swivel so it's easy to access...George added them.....probably had the same seats as the others originally........George was the 3rd owner, and from the title it looks like he got it in '84.... The wheelbase is 165".....the camper is 86 inches from the back of the cab to the wheel center...and 14' '7" not counting the overhead bunk section.....the 18" rack on the back was added by George (the guy I got it from) but I'm gonna take it back off..... It had a Dana 60 with the 5 on 5 1/2 rear but the guy I got it from broke an axle in Ohio and couldn't get it fixed on the road so it now has an 8 lug full floater....pretty sure it's a 60 but haven't verified it yet...the front is a closed knuckle 44 with the "lock-o-matic" hubs.....has the 327/turbo 400 combo with I think a dana 20 with an emergency brake on the output.....the shift pattern matches a 20.....the rear shaft has a carrier support bearing at mid point.......mine has an A/C unit on the roof where the 1st roof vent is on the white pic....and he took out the gas oven and replaced it with a microwave.....the gas lamp over the kitchen counter is neat....."

This J4000 was modified by extending the flares and simply adding a dually wheel adapter between the wheels (once, possibly still, available from JC Whitney... see pic in tech section).
