I have one rebuilt (zero miles) Jeep TH400 left:

It needs the reverse sprag put in it but I have a new one that goes with the tranny. This comes with the Quadra Trac tailshaft installed.

Elliot, are you the same one that does the hydroboost units?
What would it take to install the TH400 in an 88 GW. Mine currently has the 360 V8, 727 and NP229.
I want to retain the NP229 transfer case, but like the overdrive of a TH400.
Is this transmission rebuilt or does it need rebuilding?

Yes, I also do the hydroboost units and the dual PS pump mounts. This will bolt up to your AMC but requires a different torque converter and flexplate.
As far as using the 229, that isn't going to work as you would need a custom tailhousing adaptor and the output shaft I have isn't going to fit your input. In short, I don't believe it can be done or has been done. You could swap to a 208 which requires a different length rear driveline and a GM 32 spline tailshaft.
This has been rebuilt but needs the new rear sprag installed, the sprag goes with, it has to be torn down to install but if you are swapping in a 32 spline GM tailshaft you have to go all the way back in to do that anyway. I think your 229 is 23 spline (?) and there aren't any TH400 tailshafts that will match that I am aware of.

- First I want to thank you for assisting me with the hydroboost for my 87 and 88 GW's. I have one installed and running on the 87 and I am totally amazed at the braking power that this Jeep now has. You can lightly touch the pedal and without a lot of pressure bring it to a full stop with ease. The one challenge that I had was the PS line from the pump to the HB. I purchased a line from a 85 Chevy pickup and had to seriously work on the pump end to get it to install without rubbing somewhere. I have found a Russell PS braided steel hose for PS lines that I will use on my 88 when I get it running.
- I have found a Novak adapter that supposedly will work.

It is pricey at $494.00 but it appears to do the job. Is this early TH400 for the Jeep still one with overdrive as the GM TH400's. That is my sole purpose - to get overdrive.
What year model jeeps would I look to for the flex plate and torque converter?

Wow, very good. I had no idea, wonder if AA makes the stuff too... that's who I have the parts list for but it's an older list. This was out of a '79 Jeep. You can get the other two parts from anything from '79 down to at least '74, possibly they used the same convertor and plate on the nailhead TH 400 down to '72, maybe earlier.

Glad the HB is working so great, I really love what they do for our brakes. It's just a complete turn around.

The TH400 is a 3 speed isn't it?
I will stay with my 727 for the time being. I was thinking of swapping to a 4 speed auto ( 3speed with overdrive) to go in the gw's.

Hey guys a little off topic but i have an 82 j10 with a turbo 400 and an np208 that don't match up know of anywhere to just get an adaptor for it?
